The Skylark series is hard science fiction -- hard science for the 1930's and 40's. today, the mix of science and fantasy is a bit outdated and, quite frankly, a bit boring. If you can skip through that, the story is a good story.
I have read this series in almost every media there is and now I have it on my to enjoy and not worry about losing it in a move. It is an excellent series for beginning Sci-Fi addicts and I highly recommend it. Get all four books and enjoy them over and over again.
Read the "Skylark" series years and years ago, but never did finish the series. For grins, did a search and found this book. Enjoyed reading the book, and tied up some loose ends from the others in the series. If you liked the first three, then get this one.

The Skylark books offer a more complex set of plot lines and characterisations when compared to the Lensman stories. This is the last of four works in the series and has a refreshingly opaque ending for one of Smith's works. Whilst it can't easily be read as a standalone novel it is probably the strongest in the series. Highly recommended.
This is a the concluding volume in the Skylark series. It's not the best volume - that's a tie between Skylark 3 and Skylark of Valeron, the second and third volumes.
It's good to get closure, but you wouldn't be missing much if you skipped this one.
I for one always felt there should have been at least one or two more books in this Series. I know that there is more than enough material for one. Still it could have been stretched in to two. I sure wish I could write as fast as I think. The first book would cover the Seaton boy and the Crane girl. Plus Duquesne son and Shiro and Lotus Blossoms daughter.

"Doc" Smith is often challenging, as his streak of fascism isn't exactly latent. Still, it's an interesting look at end of one of the primal story arcs of the classic "Space Opera."
Unfortunately, despite the relatively premium price tag, this book is a "scan job" and it shows badly, the publisher having evidently not bothered to actually proofread the text before slapping a price tag on it and sending it out to the world.
I don't like sloppy eBooks, so I might have given this title three stars if the publisher had given the book the attention it deserved.
