Unlike many sailing memoirs which are just an account of technical sailing facts boring, sporty, gear-crazed, and foody. Barry Spanier gives a facinating account of the places and people he met while aboard the "Seminole" a ferro-cement sailboat that he and his wife built from scratch while living in a container in a San Francisco Boatyard in the '70's over the course of 3 years. In letters that he wrote home to his mom while voyaging south along the Pacific coast and then to a host of other places such as Tahiti, New Zealand and Hawaii, he describes the different crew members, personal growth, places and people he met and how he supported himself by sailmaking throughout his voyage. A really good read and makes me want to buy a boat and start my own voyage!Product details
